Psalm 119 & the Fundamentals of Reading Hebrew Poetry

AT 176 verses, the 119th psalm is itself longer than 31 other books in the Bible! It is a special gem to many believers, because the author is honest and humble, which allows even modern readers like us to readily identify with his passions, his pressures, and his praises. The psalm is especially relevant for those who yearn for a closer work with Christ through the strictures of life, and for those keen to care for others who are afflicted with struggles in life.

In addition to studying the psalm itself, the course will also acquaint students with how one may read Hebrew poetry with greater insight and for greater profit. You will be introduced to the character of the Hebrew language, and the patterns and practices of Hebrew verse (you do not need to know Hebrew to take the class). The goal is to hone one’s Bible-reading skills, which can then be applied to the reading of the rest of Scripture.                                            (2 Credits)

 

THE COURSES are open to the public. No minimum educational requirement is needed. However, those who are interested in using their credits earned in working towards a Certificate of Religious Knowledge may approach Emmanuel Reformed Bible College to apply for the credit points to be considered. THE REGISTRATION FORM should be completed and submitted with a course fee of $80 per course for Credit Student and $60 per course for Audit Student to the Life B-P Church Office at 10 Gilstead Road, Singapore 309064. An ‘Early Bird Discount’ of $5 will be given to those who register before 19 June 2020. Cheques should be crossed and made payable to “Life B-P Church.” Please write your name and the words “ERBL fees” on the reverse side of the cheque.

 

IF A COURSE IS DROPPED, the fees will be refunded only if the Life B-P Church Office is notified within 14 days of its commencement.

ATTENDANCE will be taken at each lecture. Certificates of Attendance will be issued to students who have achieved at least 80% attendance.

AUDIO OR VIDEO RECORDING ARE PROHIBITED   Please note that recording any lectures whether audio or video are prohibited. All Credit students are automatically registered for audio recordings of all lectures. Audit students can submit up to 3 requests within 3 days after the lecture has been delivered. Both access will expire two weeks from the date of email notification.
