Reading
Pre-Nursery/ Nursery
Children will be using the Letterland Programme to learn phonics. They will be given emergent readers and real books to read. Most Pre-Nursery and some Nursery children will read from memory when introduced. This will enable them to have a sense of story. Children will experience reading through the Shared Book Approach, dramatisation and oral retelling of story.
K1/K2
K1 children will revisit the alphabet to help them decode print. They will be introduced to simple blends throughout the year.
K
2 children will revise the simple blends taught last year. Children will be encouraged to use other reading strategies to improve their comprehension of texts read.
All the children will be observed regularly to ensure that they are appropriately challenged.
*Our Language Arts Programme adopts the whole language approach to spark our children’s interest in developing their reading and writing skills. The resources are drawn from Letterland, Ginn Reading 360 Reader as well as other basal readers from Australia, N.Z. and U.S.
