Sunday School - Young Teens Department

The Young Teens Sunday School gives biblical instruction to those in Secondary 1-4.  Ministering to young teens is not an easy task - it takes much dedication and ingenuity to reach out to them and make the Bible understandable and applicable to them.  Knowing that many of the teens who attend have grown up in church, the instruction must not only reinforce what has been learned in their childhood through reminders and re-instruction, but it must be applied with fresh insights with contemporary examples.  This helps the Bible student to realize that the Bible is a living book that is most relevant to them in their everyday life - that it is the Word of God in practice and not just in study.

Apart from the formal Sunday School lessons, we hope to share God’s involvement in our lives by relating our daily experiences with the teens. It is our prayer that we who have experienced how God has been a very present help and guide in our lives, can pass this onto the Sunday School class. By God’s grace, we hope that our teens can live each day with inner peace and joy that is independent of circumstances, knowing that God, their senior partner, journeys with them. And it is our prayer that due to the influence of the Sunday School, the teens may develop a love for God’s Word.

This year the Sec 1 to 3 will be covering lessons from the New Testament while the Sec 4s are studying biblical characters in the bible. We pray that the lessons learnt would direct our students to Christ, and that they will love the Lord and obey Him.  We also pray that the Lord would give the teachers opportunity to minister to the parents of the teens as well, and to encourage them in their family life - that Christ should be spoken of often in these formative years, lest their children be given to the devil even though they were dedicated to Christ.

If you are between 13 to 16 yrs old or a parent, whose teenage child is not attending any Sunday School Class, we invite you to join us every Sunday from 9.30am to 10.30am. Just drop by any of the classes and we will be there to welcome you! Alternatively, you may contact Shao Sheng at ssheng@pacific.net.sg to find our more about the Young Teens Sunday School.

Testimonies

YT4 Girls 2008 Testimonials

Shannen – Sunday School is interesting because our teachers impart biblical knowledge to us in ways that are understandable J   Occasionally, we are even allowed to select topics for discussion that we deal with as teens! J

Deanna – “Man cannot live by bread alone, but by the every word of God.”  Sunday School is where I learn more about the Word of God.  There are many things in the Bible that are difficult to understand, but with the guidance of Aunty Chwee Eng, everything is much clearer to me now.   At Sunday School, each of us get to share our personal experiences with each other now and then during class.   This allows me to get to know the other girls my age much better.   Overall, I attend Sunday School as I want to strengthen my walk with God.   Without Him, my life would be empty.

Elise – It is important to be spiritually enriched with God’s word and Sunday School serves as a good platform for Christians our age to nurture our spiritual growth.  Sunday School teaches me how to approach certain life issues the spiritual way and helps to discern between right and wrong in the world we see today.

Ashley – Sunday School has been an enriching time in which I have benefited much from.   Recently, I have learnt more about the women in the bible, problems that teenagers face and what we should do to overcome them.  I have also made many friends through Sunday School and we have learnt much from each other’s experiences.

Joanne – Sunday School has strengthened my faith and love for God.  In studying the women of the Bible, I’ve been encouraged to have greater faith and love like theirs for God.

Caritas J - Attending Sunday School has been a wonderful blessing God has given to me since young.  Through Sunday School, I gain more bible knowledge as well as practical lessons which can be learnt from the various characters in the bible.  Sunday School is enjoyable as it is also a time when we can share with one another, and at the same time getting to know our Christian friends better.

Gloria – I have been attending Sunday School ever since I was in primary three and it has been a great experience for me.  This year, learning about the women of faith has taught me may valuable things like suffering would bring us closer to God and it would nurture patience and hope in us.

Sara – I like coming to Sunday School because they teach me God’s word and the practical approach, how to apply them in my everyday life.  Sunday School is something I look forward to every week.

Janelle – Oftentimes, I rush through my day without praying to God and start worrying over things that God could easily help me with.   I guess Sunday School is a constant reminder to me to put my faith in God and trust that He would help me through all the little problems I face (we are doing on faithful women in the Bible).

Jolyn – Why do I go for Sunday School?    I feel that Sunday school is a good place to learn more about the Lord because other areas like the main service sometimes cover more profound topics or do not require conversations which may be too difficult to understand or rather shorten my attention span.  Instead, in Sunday school, I feel more energetic in a way and I can actually learn much more from the almost one-to-one way of teaching as the class size is usually only about 10 or so.  Ever since attending these sessions, I have learnt quite a lot that I never knew of.  One topic from last year which got me very interested was one covered around the end of the year about the 7 year tribulation period.  Perhaps the topics covered in the main service and Sunday school does not differ much, but Sunday school addresses the topic in a way that is much easier to comprehend.  That is why I want to go for Sunday school.  I suppose it caters to the younger generation and that is why I find the sessions more fruitful than others like the main service.

Though I attend both, Sunday school gives me a better understanding of the books in the bible, the topics covered teaches me the impact of the yearn of worldly treasures on our relationship with the Lord and has helped me to get on track with the Lord after a week of school and stress.  It has definitely helped me in more ways than one and the reasons I attend are many.  This testimony has also helped me to understand why I attend Sunday school.  Before this, it has been almost just a weekly routine, but after taking time to think and reflect, I realize there is more to it than just being there to listen.

Dewi - I attend Sunday School because it helps me learn more about the BIBLE in a more personal basis where we are able to interact and voice our views regarding the scripture we are reading. Unlike services we attend at Church where we do not have the opportunity to question when learning about the doctrine. In this way, I learn more about the BIBLE in terms of biblical knowledge and the way I should lead my life.

YT Boys’ testimonies

I joined Sunday school in the middle of Sec 1. After joining Sunday school, I realized how much I was missing in the teachings of God. Sunday school is a more focused study with small groups than the worship service and it is easier to pay attention. It teaches many things like doctrines in Sec 3. It improved my knowledge of the Word tremendously and I will continue to attend Sunday school. - Josias Goh

Sunday school has been beneficial to me, both spiritually and physically. It has been most enriching attending the Sunday school class. Through the many classes, I have learnt of the many trials in life be it in our spiritual life or in our earthly life, and how to deal with them by depending on our Lord & using His word. More importantly, I have been able to grow spiritually by studying His word often (1 Pet 2:2). Thus, I thank & praise God for granting me extra time to study His word, amidst the busy life on earth, which has enabled me to grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (2 Pet 3:18). Furthermore, God instructs us to "study to shew thyself approved unto God..." As such, it is my joy & desire to come each week to study & understand the Word of God. Truly, having the Bible is such a wonderful blessing that should never be taken for granted. - Chia Shao Hui, Gideon

I have been attending Sunday school since nursery.  I always learn about the Bible characters and many bible stories. It was only till last year when I learn more doctrinal knowledge from Mark. The Sunday school became more interesting as I always wanted and preferred a more in depth study of the Bible. - David Wong

I joined Sunday school at Sec 1 after my reaffirmation of faith at Easter that year. Then I was mostly ignorant of Christian fellowship and Christian learning. All the previous years of my Christian life I treated Sundays as a chore. Through Mark's teaching of the doctrines of the church, I came to understand better the doctrines taught by the church.

Other lessons in the Sunday school taught me life lessons that have the Christian meanings behind it; to learn lessons on some books in the Bible, like Romans and Revelation, giving me much understanding of the things taught in the Bible.

I myself believe that Sunday school has taught me valuable lessons in my Christian walk, notwithstanding changing my spiritual walk with God. - James Kok

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Sunday school has been a very enriching time for me every Sunday as it gives me a chance to learn with my peers. For the lowers I believe it is laying the foundation for their Christian walk; and for the uppers it is for the edification of their lives as well as for further knowledge of the Word, e.g. the Westminster confession of faith. Although this was quite a tough topic, I thank God that it was very edifying and through this we can even gain more knowledge on the faith that we believe in, as well as to be able to defend the faith in these times. Sunday school has also been a time where I got to know how my peers think, as well as a time to minister to them, and them to me. May we all, as Proverbs 22:6 says, “not depart from it”, it being what we have learnt as youths in Sunday School. - Timotheus Lee

I came to church four years ago and I have been attending Sunday school ever since. I believe and feel that Sunday school has helped me a lot in my life; helping me grow in my Christian faith as well as teaching me interesting Bible knowledge.
Sunday school has also been my bridge over troubled waters as I can find people as old as me encountering the same forms of difficulty and hardships that I am going through.

I thank God for my Sunday school lessons; and I am glad that there is a place like Sunday school for me to grow and overcome my problems. - Benjamin Teo

I join Sunday school since my nursery days. From the start I admit I wasn't that interested, getting into lots of trouble, not only in Sunday School but also in my primary school. Somehow, I did not know what had change me all of a sudden; I guess it must be God who change me for the better. Thank God - Samuel Lim
