Junior Department

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

Timothy was acquainted with the scripture truths as a child and was thus able to receive the gospel when Paul preached it. While salvation is the work of God alone, we are called to intentionally sow the seeds in children’s lives and set them up with lifelong habits to draw them close to God.

It’s not an easy endeavour. Sometimes a Sunday School teacher’s biggest fear is the child asking why. Why do we pray? Why is the bible the Word of God? Why do we need to pray if God is all-knowing? Why don’t miracles happen now? Why does God send non-believers to hell? In my sinful heart, I sometimes ask “Why can’t we just finish the worksheets so that we can end on time?”

But I’m thankful for these children, as the questions are a reminder of how we should be ready always to give an answer for our faith ”But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15)

And we pray that these children are growing as disciple-making Christians, living for Jesus at home, and in their schools, enrichment classes or co-curricular activities. We strive to guide the children to follow Christ in true obedience – to read the Bible, to pray, to fellowship, to worship God, to sing hymns with understanding and to witness to non-believing friends, family and relatives. We look at application of the Word in their daily lives.

May parents partner our Sunday School teachers in this journey of sanctification.

“I learned that if you truly want to please God, you would have to praise Him with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.

If you follow God with all your heart, your faith will not be shaken by temptations.

If you follow God with all your soul, you would have secured a place in God’s kingdom.

Lastly, if you follow God with all your mind, you will follow His will and obey His commandments.

I hope to learn more about pleasing God.” – Gabriel Tan. P6a

“Sunday School is a rewarding time to learn about God and His word with friends. Sunday School also helps me to understand the Bible better. Recently, I learned about God’s promises and His faithfulness. When I am nervous, I can remember that God promised to take care of His children. Also, He will be faithful to us and keep His promises so I trust in Him. Sunday School is an enjoyable period of learning.” – Jonathan Ong, P6a

“I enjoy Sunday School and the lessons I learnt. I also enjoy what I learn that I can apply it in my daily life. I learned to have faith and to trust in God in whatever I do. I wish to be like God more and more each day” – Glenda, P4

“I like Sunday School because I can make new friends, learn about God’s word and hide it in my heart. Sunday School is very fun. I hope that more people will be able to come to Sunday School.” – Charlotte Goh, P4

“Lessons are fun and engaging, helping me to learn how to walk in parallel with God as His word demands. I apply this in school, work and play. I can apply patience and love for my friends when I am with them to show Christian values.” – Samantha Woon, P6a

“I learned many things in the 6 years that I have spent in Sunday School, such as the right’s and wrong’s of characters, and the miracles Jesus performed like healing the blind man. I also learned how to walk with God, memorise Bible verses and learn how people live their lives.” – Isaac Cheng, P6a

“I learned the bible stories in more details and I also learnd how to apply it in real life.” – Ariel Cheong, P6a

“My favourite bible verse is ‘John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’ This verse reminds me to believe in God as I will receive eternal life if I believe in Him.” Isaac Sim, P6a
