Testimonies of Saints
Testimony of My Mother's Salvation
by Lee Him Buan, 4 February 2005
"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved" (Romans 10:13)

I would like to give a testimony of my mother, Mdm Hui
Yuen Kum. She is 97 years old, independent and hardworking. We have been
praying for her salvation for many years.
My mother was born in China on Nov 1907 and married
my father at the age of 20. Shortly, after her marriage, my father came
to Singapore to work. He only sent for my mother over to Singapore after
10 years.
My mother first heard of the gospel when she was
working as a washer woman for a Teochew family (my neighbour) when I was
about 10 years old. She allowed this neighbour to bring me to Sunday
School every Sunday at Life Church Prinsep Street.
Lately, we have been praying fervently for her
salvation. On 13 July 2004, she was admitted to hospital for
breathlessness. She was sent to TTSH (CDC 2) isolation ward for
observation as she was suffering from lung infection. Perhaps she
thought about God and life after death as she was lying on the bed all
day long, feeling alone and sick.
On Sunday 18 July 2004 my children and son-in-law
witnessed to her. Subsequently, my son-in-law prayed for her in
Cantonese. After the prayer, she kept silent for a while and was in deep
thought. Finally she said that she wanted to follow the God of her 2nd
son and his family.
In the evening, when we visited again, she told us
that she had informed the other children of her decision to follow
Christ.
The next day, 19 July 2004, Rev Colin Wong and sister
Mong Eng visited her and she agreed to be baptized the following day.
The baptism was witnessed by Elder Khoo, Mrs Seow, Mrs Goh Mong Eng,
Deacon Benny Goh and Preacher Quek Kheng Kwang and my family. She
desired to attend Church after her discharge.
She was discharged from TTSH and transferred to AMK
hospital on 30 July 2004 to recuperate. After her discharge from AMK
hospital on 12 August 2004, she eagerly followed us to Church and had
since been attending the Life BP Chinese service.
However, on 18 Jan 2005, she felt weak on the left
side of the body and was admitted to TTSH again. After a head scan, it
was discovered that she had a blood clot on the right side of her brain.
The next day, she had an operation to remove the clot. The church prayed
for her and the operation was successful.
On 4 Feb 2005, she was called home to be with the
Lord due to abdominal bleeding.
I would like to thank the church members for their
prayers and visitations. I thank God for her strong faith, that even
during her stay in the hospital, she still thought of going to church.
We will miss her but we know that she will be in a
better place with our Lord and will no longer suffer from pain and poor
health. |
