Text: Hebrews 11:23-29

I.       Choose to Obey God, Not Man (v.23)

a. Moses’ life of faith started with faithful parents.

b. They feared God more than Pharaoh.

c. True faith requires disobedience to human authority when it contradicts God’s Word (cf. Acts 5:29)

d. Standing with God and His truth may have costly consequences but we are called to please God rather than man (Isaiah 51:12).

 

II. Choose to Identify with God, Not the World (v.24-27) 

a. Moses had everything the world could offer.

b. At the age of 40, he made a life-changing choice.

c. Moses chose to set his affection on God and not the world.

 

III. Choose to Believe in God’s Power to Save (v.22)

a. Moses believed in God’s power to save Israel from judgment through the Passover—the blood of the lamb spared them from the death of the firstborn.

b. He also believed in God’s power to deliver them from Egypt at the Red Sea—a miraculous display of God’s might.

c. The same path that saves God’s people is the path that judges God’s enemies. The cross of Jesus is either your salvation or your judgment (cf. John 3:16).

 

Reflection Questions:

1. When have you had to choose between obeying God and pleasing people? What did you do, and what was the outcome?

2. Are you more concerned with how the world sees you or how God sees you? Why?

3. Are you trusting in Jesus alone—our Passover Lamb—for salvation, or are you still trying to earn God’s favour through your works?
