A New Year Benediction
Life B-P Church Watchnight Service, 31st December 2025
Text: Hebrews 13:20-21

This benediction corresponds closely with the beginning of Hebrews. It will help us to begin the new year well, by reminding us of three precious truths:

1.    God knows our need.

• We need peace – with God, with others and within ourselves. (Cf. Numbers 6:24-26; John 14:27; Psalm 4:8)
• We need a shepherd – to lead, guide and care for us. (Cf. John 10:11)
• We need to do His will – to live a truly meaningful and fulfilled life. (Cf. The exhortations found in Hebrews 10:23-25; 12:1-28; 13:1-16)

2.    God is able to meet our need.

• He has powerfully raised Jesus from the dead.
• He faithfully keeps His covenant. (Cf. 8:10,12; Matthew 26:28)
• He will lovingly make us perfect in every good work. (Cf. Philippians 2:12,13; 1 John 5:14-15)

3.    God meets our need through Jesus Christ.

• This should be our main takeaway from all that we have learned from our study of Hebrews in 2025.
• The designation of Christ as the Great Shepherd of the sheep encapsulates His sovereign authority, sacrificial love, and personal care for all His people. (Cf. Psalm 23)
• We will be comforted to know that Christ will walk with us, and He is all that we need. (Cf. John 10:27,28)

1. In what areas of your life do you need to trust God's provision and guidance?
2. How can you rest in God's peace and presence amidst life's challenges?
3. How does knowing Christ as the Great Shepherd bring you comfort?
4. How should it encourage you to follow Him faithfully?
