Reflecting Christ, Redeeming the Time
You are Living Stones
Life B-P Church Worship Service, 22nd February 2026
Text: 1 Peter 2:4-6

Introduction
  • The church is God’s redeemed people, not an institution
  • Believers as “lively stones” in God’s spiritual house
I. Christ - The Precious, Living Cornerstone (v.4, 6)

1. Christ Is the Living Stone
  • Christ is alive! (1 Cor 15:3-4, Rev 1:18)
  • He is exalted (Heb 10:12, Phil 2:9-11)
  • He is life-giving (Jn 1:3-4)
  • He is a stone and foundation of our faith (1 Cor 3:11)

2. Christ is Rejected by Men, Chosen by God
  • Rejected and despised by men (Isa 53:2–3)
    • Religious leaders opposed Him (Mk 7:6, Jn 5:18, Lk 22:2)
    • Regular people abandoned Him (Jn 6:66, Lk 23:21, Jn 19:15)
    • Roman rulers crucified Him (Lk 23:24, Mt 27:31)
  • Approved by God
    • Foreordained to redeem us (1 Pet 1:20)
    • Chosen to communicate with us (Jn 14:9, Heb 1:1-2)
    • Precious to God (Mt 3:17, Mt 17:5)

3. Christ the Chief Cornerstone
  • God Himself laid the foundation (v.6, Is 28:16)
  • Criticality of cornerstone – aligns, bears weight and consolidates structure
  • Christ determines doctrine, worship, ministry, and life of the church
  • Church built on Christ alone - Solus Christus

II. Christians — The Priestly, Living Stones (v.5)

1. Our New Identity
  • Every believer is a living stone
  • All are quickened & regenerated by the Spirit, and united to Christ (Rom 6:5)

2. Our Corporate Calling

a) A Spiritual House
  • Built together in fellowship and unity (Eph 4:16, Heb 10:25)
  • Rejection of ‘lone-ranger’ Christianity
  • Commitment to church life, accountability, and oversight

b) A Holy Priesthood
  • All believers are priests in Christ (Heb 10:12, Rev 1:6)
  • Direct access to God (Heb 4:14-16)
  • Offering spiritual sacrifices:
    • Consecrated living (Rom 12:1)
    • Praise and thanksgiving (Heb 13:15, Col 3:16)
    • Good works and service (Heb 13:16, Gal 6:10)
    • Witnessing (Matt 28:19-20, Prov 11:30)
    • Prayer and intercession (Rom 8:26, Jas 5:16)
    • Giving (2 Cor 9:7, 1 Tim 6:17-19)

c) Acceptance Through Christ Alone
  • Our best works are imperfect and unacceptable without Christ (cf. Isa 64:6)
  • Our spiritual sacrifices are accepted by God for Christ’s sake (Heb 6:10)
  • Guard against pride and self-righteousness

III. Confidence — The Promised Eternal Security (v.6)

1. God’s Unshakeable Foundation
  • God laid the chief cornerstone in Zion (Heb 12:22)
  • Christ, the foundation is unchanging and eternal (Heb 13:8)

2. Believers’ Certain Hope
  • “Shall not be confounded” never put to shame or disappointed
  • Confidence in God’s covenant and promises (Heb 6:17-19, 13:5)
  • Assurance in trials and persecution (2 Cor 4:8-10, 17-18)

Conclusion
  • Warning against remaining a “loose stone”
  • Call to repentance and faith in Christ
  • Believers reminded of the privilege as lively stones
  • Call to grow in faithfulness, holiness and love and to treasure Christ, commit to His church, serve sacrificially and live distinctly for God’s glory
  • “For other foundation can no man lay than… Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 3:11)

Offering for Missions

We thank God that Lifers are very generous in their offerings towards missions. In terms of support, the church gives priority to our fully-supported missionaries and we would like you to be aligned with the church’s position when giving towards missions. Rather than giving offerings that are designated to specific individuals or mission stations, you are encouraged to give to the Missions Fund and let the Missions Committee disburse them as it sees fit. Your understanding on this will facilitate an informed stewardship of resources for the Lord’s work in missions. If you wish to contribute financially to missionaries, please indicate "DO Missions" in the reference field in your e-Offering via the Life Church PayNow QR Code. May the Lord bless your cheerful giving.
