Text: Hebrews 7:11-19
I. The Perfection of Jesus’ Priesthood (vv.11-14)
a. A change in our approach to God (v.11)
b. A change in the law (v.12)
c. A change in the origin of the priesthood (vv.13-14)
II. The Power of Jesus’ Indestructible Life (vv.15-17)
a. The clear evidence that another priest typified by Melchizedek has arisen - an allusion to the resurrected Christ (cf. endless life)
b. The physical requirements (law of a carnal commandment) of the Levitical priesthood (Lev. 21:16-23) do not apply to Jesus
c. The Priesthood of Christ is eternal
III. The Priesthood of Jesus Brings A Better Hope (vv.18-19)
a. The disannulling of the law because of its inability to fully address the problem of sin.
b. The Levitical priesthood/ceremonial laws could not bring a man fully to God (cf. Heb. 10:1-4)
c. The better hope comes with being able to draw near to God.
