Renewing Our Strength in the Lord:

Full Access, Full Assurance, Full Resolve

Life B-P Church Worship Service, 27th July 2025

Text: Hebrews 10:19-23

  • Here, the writer returns to the theme of Hebrews 4:16 – “Come boldly unto the throne of grace…”
  • The contents of Hebrews 5:1-10:18 are summarised in verses 19-21.
  • Hence, there are three things we must do in response to what we have learnt from these chapters of Hebrews:

1. Rely on Jesus for Full Access to God (vv.19-21)

  • By dying on the cross, Jesus has paid the penalty for our sins. (v.19)
  • By inaugurating the New Covenant, Jesus has opened the way for us to have direct access to God. (v.20)
  • By becoming our High Priest in heaven, Jesus now intercedes for us continually. (v.21)

Applications:

- There is no other way to reach God except Jesus. (Cf. John 14:6)

- You can approach God with boldness through Jesus.

2. Draw Near to God with Full Assurance (v.22)

  • God has always wanted His people to draw near to Him.
    (Cf. Isaiah 55:6; Psalm 27:8; James 4:8)
  • What matters most when we draw near to God is our heart.
  • Full assurance of faith comes by resting on the truth that He has cleansed our hearts. (Cf. Psalm 51:6,7)

Applications:

- Treasure every opportunity to draw near to God.

- Do not allow your quiet time with God to become merely a routine.

- When sin causes you to lose your full assurance of faith, confess your sin to God to restore it. (1 John 1:9)

3. Persevere to the End with Full Resolve (v.23)

  • It is only by drawing near to God that the Jewish recipients of this epistle would be able to renew their strength to hold fast their profession of faith despite being persecuted for it.
  • To hold fast without wavering is to remain steadfast and unswerving in one’s commitment.

Applications:

- You need to be fully resolved to persevere because of pressures from the world, struggles to keep your priorities in order, and challenges to your beliefs.

- Develop strong personal convictions based on God’s Word by seeking to understand it well and by believing it with all your heart. (Cf. Psalm 119:34; 1 Timothy 1:15; 4:9)

Your Encouragement:

- “…for He is faithful that promised.” (v.23b)

- Cf. Hebrews 9:15 – “…they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.”

- Therefore, use your full access to God with full assurance, and press on with full resolve!

Questions for Personal Reflection:

1. Are there areas in your life where you are struggling to approach God with boldness?

2. How can you cultivate a full assurance of faith in your daily walk with God?

3. What steps will you take to hold fast the profession of your faith without wavering?

Offering for Missions

We thank God that Lifers are very generous in their offerings towards missions. In terms of support, the church gives priority to our fully-supported missionaries and we would like you to be aligned with the church’s position when giving towards missions. Rather than giving offerings that are designated to specific individuals or mission stations, you are encouraged to give to the Missions Fund and let the Missions Committee disburse them as it sees fit. Your understanding on this will facilitate an informed stewardship of resources for the Lord’s work in missions. If you wish to contribute financially to missionaries, please indicate "DO Missions" in the reference field in your e-Offering via the Life Church PayNow QR Code. May the Lord bless your cheerful giving.
