Calling Defines the Passion for God
Life B-P Church Worship Service, 21st June 2026
Text: Galatians 2:20
 
Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 1:3; Colossians 3:10
Who are we?  How do we identify ourselves, believers of God?
 
I. We are crucified with Christ.
  1. The bodily crucifixion took a form of bodily suspension in the Old Testament.
    Pharaoh’s baker (Genesis 40:22; 41:13); Deuteronomy 21:22-23; Haman’s death; Lamentation 5:12b
  2. The Ancient Near East was familiar with execution by suspension.
    Historians’ records (Herodotus, Curtius Rufus); Josephus and Philo’s testimonies
  3. Any crucified one was viewed with contempt.
  4. Christ was crucified (1 Corinthians 1:23) and we are crucified with Him (cf. Galatians 6:14).
  
II. We live by faith of the Son of God.
(Not I, but Christ liveth in me)
  1. It is a life of self-denial.
  2. It is a life a Christ-advancing life (Romans 8:10-11; 1 Corinthians 1:30; Colossians 2:2; Romans 3:25-26).
  3. It is a heavenward life (Colossians 3:2, 5).
  4. It is a Spirit-led life (Romans 8:4, 9; Galatians 5:1-12; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:3; 2:6).
  5. It is also an objective faith as well as subjective.
 
Conclusion
2 Corinthians 13:5. Are we living by faith in Christ who loved us and gave Himself for us?
