Building Up the Church of Christ:

The Value of Prayer Meeting

Life B-P Church Worship Service, 11th June 2023

Text: Acts 12:1-19

It is estimated 10-12% of church members attend the Church Prayer Meeting. We know its importance and yet we do little to take it seriously, and it is not our priority to attend.

Are we treating the Church Prayer meeting as an investment portfolio? NO VALUE, NO COMMITMENT! LITTLE VALUE, LITTLE COMMITMENT!

“We shall never see much change for the better in our churches in general till the prayer meeting occupies a higher place in the esteem of Christians.” – CH Spurgeon.

There are at least 3 values that we can gain from attending prayer meetings.

1.  It affirms God’s Sovereignty

  • Our constant touch with God through prayer will remind us that God is in control, and He makes no mistake in all that happen to us. It affirms that God is sovereign and encourages us to keep trusting Him even in the darkest hour of our lives.

2.  It affirms our Dependence on Him.

  • Our Christian experience clearly confirms that we are weak, but He is strong. We need God’s help and prayer affirms our dependence on our heavenly Father who is compassionate and ready to hear and answer our prayer.

3.  It affirms God’s Love for us.

  • Prayer connects us and assures us of God’s unconditional love. It affirms that there is nothing that can separate us from His love despite our failures. We love Him because He first love us. If we believe not, yet He abideth faithful: He cannot deny Himself (2 Tim 2:13).

The real problem for demeaning the value of prayer meeting is our relationship with God. Sin destroys peace of mind, obscures our fellowship with Jesus, hinders our prayer, and brings darkness over the soul.

We need God more than He needs us. Let us commit ourselves to prayer meeting and find every reason to meet faithfully at His Throne of grace with fellow brethren in the blessed hour of prayer.
